Lake District Knokke
Standing tall in the seaside city of Knokke, Belgium is Lake District. Living the good life is the exact promise made by this prestigious development project by Ghelamco. It spans three buildings and offers 166 apartment units, a hotel, 600 square metres of office space, and 3000 square metres of commercial space. Discover how glass and high-performance aluminium solutions help create a luxurious appearance in this cross-border realisation by Reynaers Aluminium The Netherlands.
The Lake District project is all about magnificent architecture for stylish living. The tower buildings with their beautiful and elegant architecture charm any visitor, from whichever angle they may look. A playful and striking interplay of lines is created by the canopies and terraces. Due to the irregular shape of the terraces, they all have their own size and individuality. Luxurious details such as inlaid marble and bronze coloured window frames by Reynaers Aluminium give the entire project an unseen timeless grandeur.
Andreas Ververis, Key Account Manager at Reynaers Aluminium in The Netherlands, was involved right from the start. “Initially, during the calculation phase, we assisted in identifying the most suitable system solution. We had to consider different requirements, which included floor-to-ceiling windows, the location close to the sea, multiple functionalities and, of course, aesthetics.”
MasterLine 8 and MasterPatio: the perfect combination
MasterLine 8 windows and MasterPatio lift-slide systems ticked all the right boxes. Perfectly adapted to fit together, these solutions are known to offer lots of design freedom and optimal incidence of daylight. Their sleek finishing and excellent performance make MasterLine and MasterPatio the preferred solutions for building partners and end users alike. Our partner Byldis, specialised in mid- and high-rise construction projects, guaranteed the quality and installation of the aluminium systems at Lake District.
MasterPatio's versatility was crucial in accommodating the project's specific requirements. The limited profile widths and the ability to support larger and heavier glass panes contributed to the realisation of the overall project vision. Allowing vent heights of up to 3.6 metres, these sturdy lift-slide solutions improved the building’s windload resistance, water tightness and thermal performance, without compromising on the incredible panoramic views.
“The installers received special training on how to properly manage the window solutions. During the construction phase, we were at hand to give tips and tricks on how to adjust the systems when needed.”

Futureproof and awarded quality
“The extensive design freedom MasterPatio can offer is further highlighted by the Red Dot Design Award it has received. Moreover, both MasterLine and MasterPatio are Cradle to Cradle Certified, underlining the fact they are highly recyclable and provide a great match for circular building projects”, notes Cristian Gordon, Technical Adviser for Reynaers Aluminium in The Netherlands. "To top it all off, both systems carry the prestigious Swiss Minergie label, as they greatly improve indoor comfort and can reach passive thermal efficiency levels."
Andreas Ververis concludes: “The Lake District project in three keywords: organic, sustainable, and original. It is a project where Reynaers Aluminium, along with our partners, have contributed to enhancing the living and working environments of many people today, but also for future generations. Lake District stands as an impressive architectural feat that we can all be very proud of."
